Couple Fell in Love with Michakewa Shores

Land Owner’s Story
by Ron and Tricia L., owners at Michakewa Shores in Cheboygan, Michigan.

We weren’t really looking for land, but we had the idea in the back of our heads. We were up at our boat on Lake Huron, saw an ad for Michakewa Shores, decided to take a look, and just fell in love with it.

We looked at a few other places here and there, but the lots we saw were right on top of each other and there weren’t many trees. Michakewa Shores is spread out and the setting is more private. We love the extra property with the hiking trails, the private road, and the restrictions, which will ensure the value of the property will be protected.

It will probably be at least five to six years before we build, but this summer we’re going to establish some water access with a dock and begin using the lake. We’ll use the lake all the time.

Our experience with McKeough Land Company was very good. We’re very happy with everybody we dealt with. We met them at the property a few times and they answered all of our questions. If they didn’t know the answer, they looked for us and were very good at responding.

Wisconsin: A Great Place to Get Away

Land Owner’s Story
by Craig and Pam M., owners at Petenwell Landing in Wisconsin.

My husband and I really weren’t looking for land, but we saw our friends’ lot at Kennedy Waters and fell in love with the area. We purchased two lots at Petenwell Landing–we built a house on one and, because my husband’s a financial planner, saved another for investment. We also purchased two lots at Big Bay for investments. We’ve since sold our investment lot at Petenwell Landing.

We go fishing, boating, and ATVing. We come up for long weekends and week-long trips during fishing season. It’s a great place for us to get away and enjoy the beauty of the area and relax. Friends and family join us, and they can’t wait until we ask them to come up for a visit. We also love to go up in the winter and just relax by the fire and watch the wildlife. It’s so peaceful.

Our Land Consultant did a great job. He was very helpful and knowledgeable and provided great service.

Couple Loves Layout of Chalk’s Landing

Land Owner’s Story
by Steve and Wendy K., owners at Chalk’s Landing.

My wife and I had been avidly looking for retirement land for the past two years. We had been contacting realtors and land companies and nothing struck us. I saw an ad in USA Today for Chalk’s Landing and inquired about it. My Land Consultant emailed me back the next morning and we set up an appointment for the Grand Opening later that week.

We bought two lake-access parcels and we might buy a third lot next month for investment. We’re going to build on one and give one to our oldest daughter and son-in-law. We love the layout of the whole property, the wooded lots, and the protective covenants—McKeough is trying to keep it as natural as possible. It’s very difficult to find property on an inland lake in North Carolina, so we’re very excited. And we’re only about an hour away from Charlotte, which is great.

I’m thankful that everyone who worked at McKeough had a smile on their face, and we really got to learn about the company. The whole company has it together. Everything fell into place, and I’ll pass the word on to anyone looking to retire in the south or anywhere else.

Land Owner’s Story
by Dan and Judy S., owners at Northland Lakes.

It’s refreshing to work with a development company that is concerned with preserving, whenever possible, the natural environment. It should be noted that the name of the company is McKeough “LAND” Company.

We worked with our Land Consultant for many years before we found the property that was both affordable and offered the natural setting we were seeking. She was patient and responsive to our many questions and concerns. We are looking forward to many years of enjoyment at Northland Lakes.

Sunsets and a Beautiful, Pristine Beach

Land Owner’s Story
by John and Lisa G., owners at Highfield Beach Club.

To understand the reason that we bought at Highfield Beach Club in South Haven, you have to understand us and what we like. For years we traveled to southwest Florida because we’re beach, sun, and sunset people. We’ve done that since I’ve been in high school.

As our life proceeded and changed, we kept looking to the future, and we started to look for some place that we could get our little slice of heaven in Michigan as well as Florida. On our 10th anniversary, we spent some time out in the South Haven/Saugatuck area and really loved it. When we heard that Highfield Beach was being developed, we went out and visited and it really has everything that we enjoy.

It has sunsets, a beautiful pristine beach, a little privacy, and it’s not too big or too small. Because we’re very social people, we enjoy that South Haven has restaurants and shopping. If you really want to get big, within two hours we can go back to the Detroit area or we can go to Chicago.

For us, it has everything we love. We took our relatives out there the other day, and they’re used to going to the east coast. They said they couldn’t believe how nice it was. What a wonderful thought and purchase that we made. We liked it so well that we ended up buying two lots–we bought one for us to build on and one as an investment because we just feel it’s a great place to have property.

This was our first experience with McKeough Land Company and I’d have to say it was a very positive one. From the first day that we were out buying, all the employees were very helpful. You could ask any question of anyone and they had numerous resources on site that we could use to help make our purchase experience good, helpful, and educational. We’ve had every question answered, and everyone is very accessible through cell phones and emails–they always follow up. Once in a while we even get a phone call from some of the land consultants just to say hi because we’ve kind of become friends with them. That’s what it’s all about for us–the whole experience and lifestyle.

Brown Dog Ranch Offers the Best of Both Worlds

Land Owner’s Story
by Jeff R., owner at Brown Dog Ranch.

I started out looking for a house with great views in Durango, CO. The views were the main attraction for me. Then I had the chance to visit Brown Dog Ranch–the views are phenomenal! It was like being in heaven.

The community is nicely sized and has 15 lots. The building area is flat, which is great, and the roads getting there are very good. It’s very secluded but it’s also close to Telluride, so you have the best of both worlds. It has a lot of good things going for it.

I’m planning to use the property for personal use and investment. Right now I’m thinking I’ll build, live there for a few years or more, and hopefully get a good return on my investment if I decide to sell in the future.

Breathtaking Views at Chalk’s Landing

Land Owner’s Story
by Steve and Anne C., owners at Chalk’s Landing.

My wife and I had been looking for a site for our house for two years. We saw a reference to Chalk’s Landing in a local economic development newsletter and made contact with a McKeough Land Consultant after Phase 1 had sold out. When Phase 2 opened, we bought lots 81 and 85. The view is just breathtaking from our water-view lot–we can see across the river to the hills. It couldn’t be a more picture-perfect setting.

We’re currently planning to build our primary residence at Chalk’s Landing–a three-bedroom house over 3,000 square feet. We want to break ground by Thanksgiving and move in by late spring. We’re moving along as fast as we can. We love the house we’re in, but it’s not big enough, and it’s not Chalk’s Landing. We’re just really excited about what we bought and our plans, and it’s hard to imagine finding a more perfect piece of property for what we have in mind.

Everyone that we’ve met from McKeough or connected with McKeough in any way was professional and friendly. We’ve enjoyed everyone we’ve met from top to bottom. Everyone made us feel welcomed and that’s special. We also like that you hired local people to do the landscaping and the roads because we know all of them. It has made the whole experience nicer.

Beautiful Lakefront Land at Lowe’s Ferry

Land Owner’s Story
by Allan and Kathleen, owners at Lowe’s Ferry.

We went to visit some friends in Knoxville and weren’t quite sure what to expect. After three days there, we were blown away by how beautiful the area was and I said to my wife, “I would love to move to Tennessee.” It’s not as cold as New Jersey (where we’re originally from) but not as hot as Florida. One day we got a flyer from McKeough Land Company advertising a pre-construction sale at Lowe’s Ferry. I called my friend from Knoxville and asked him to take his boat over to see the property. He called me back and said, “This is the most beautiful property. People around here have been waiting for it to go up for sale for a long time.”I talked to a land consultant from McKeough Land Company and he took me up for a tour. I found a beautiful lakefront lot and had to have it. I already bought a boat and I don’t even have a dock yet! We want to start building by August (the plans should be finished within the next two weeks) and are going to try to spend at least six months a year there for the first two years. After that, we’re going to play it by ear, but it’s definitely going to be our vacation property.

I’ve always wanted waterfront land and Lowe’s Ferry is perfect for us. We love the more moderate temperature and how everyone knows everyone. It’s awesome. People there are just really nice. And our neighbors in Florida are thinking about coming up to look at the property. Overall, it was a really good experience and the people from McKeough did everything first-class.

Beautiful Landscapes in Northern Michigan

Land Owner’s Story
by Pat S. and Roz L., owners at The Reserve.

Nestled amongst winding roads, beautiful landscapes, magnificent golf courses, quaint harbor villages, and charming lakes, The Reserve is a place we knew we could call home. Looking for a vacation home site and a place where we, our children, and our grandchildren would spend many wonderful days, The Reserve fit all our needs. It is truly a dream come true.

We were attracted to all the recreational activities at Boyne Mountain and The Reserve. The close proximity to the golf course, ski slopes, cross-country ski trails, bike trails, and water just made The Reserve a place that beckoned us. The enchantment of the landscape coupled with the amenities is outstanding and soothing to the soul.

Although we plan to build in eight years, right now The Reserve will be used as an investment, and place for the families to gather. In the future, after retirement, the children will become the overseers.

Buying land has always been a desire but not an immediate plan, however, once spotting The Reserve, there was no denying it was a purchase that needed to be made.

Our land consultant served as our guide and counsel. The acquisition process was flawless. We see our land consultant when we are at Boyne. He is always so cheerful and helpful with any of our needs. We have come to see him as the “anchor” of The Reserve.
