Life Around Mohawksin Point

RECREATION

• Lake Mohawksin is a nearly 2,000-acre body of water that is perfect for boating, skiing or swimming.

• Fishing and the Northwoods go hand-in-hand. Visit a local bait shop and wet your line in Lake Mohawksin, called a “fisherman’s paradise” by the Wisconsin Muskie Tour. Don’t own a boat? You can rent pontoon, ski boats and even inner tubes at the Tomahawk Sports Center.

• Take a nature walk or bike through lake country on the 6.5-mile Hiawatha Trail or the Bearskin State Trail, an 18-mile trail that runs all the way to Minocqua! A short drive away, you’ll find the challenging High Point Trail and Timm’s Hill, the highest point in Wisconsin.

• Tomahawk offers nine parks, including SARA Park, which has fields for baseball, soccer and volleyball, as well as an indoor ice-skating/hockey rink and swimming beach. Pride Park features a skateboard park and at Memorial Park you can watch the Kwahamot Water Ski Show. Many of the other parks have picnic areas, playgrounds and tennis courts, as well.

• The Lincoln County Forest is just a short drive away. The 101,000-acre forest offers endless recreational opportunities, including hunting for bear, deer and grouse.

• You can learn fly-fishing, archery or basketry at the 1,400-acre Treehaven environmental learning center. Treehaven is also home to hiking, cross-country and snowshoeing trails.

• Hit the links at one of five public golf courses within half an hour of Tomahawk, including Rhinelander’s Northwood Golf Club, given 4.5 stars as a Golf Digest Place to Play.

• Enjoy the local festivals all summer long. Tomahawk hosts car shows, music festivals, parades, antique boat shows and arts and crafts fairs.

• There’s plenty to do during the winter, too. Lincoln County has more than 400 miles of snowmobile trails, and since Lake Mohawksin is part of those trails, you’ll have access out your back door. You can also ski, ice-skate, sled or snowshoe on the local trails and in the area

IN TOWN

• Enjoy community arts at the Nicolet College Theatre. Nicolet Live presents the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, Our Town, the first two weekends in May. The Northern Lights Playhouse, in nearby Hazelhurst, presents Broadway-style live performances as well as children’s theater.

• For the grown-ups, Lac du Flambeau’s Lake of the Torches Resort and Casino is an hour away.

• In the evening, you can catch a show of the Kwahamot Water Ski Club. This 48-year-old youth club performs three times a week in free stunt shows.

• Visit Tomahawk’s historic downtown for local gift shops, antique stores, bookstores and restaurants. Or, enjoy the scenery on the Riverwalk.

• If you visit on a rainy day, there are plenty of indoor activities as well. Watch a movie at the Tomahawk Cinema or take your best shot at Zinger’s Paintball. Learn about the history of the Northwoods at the First School and Log Cabin Museums.

DINING

The area has many dining options, from bar and grills to family-style restaurants. Don’t miss out on a Wisconsin tradition: supper clubs! There are four in the area to fill you up after a long day on the water. After a delicious dinner, stop by the Windmill Ice Cream Shoppe, which opens for the season in April.
